Water Damage

Flood & Monsoon Damage Restoration in Las Vegas, NV

Flood damage restoration is the extraction, drying and rebuild work needed after storm water, flash flooding or a roof leak brings outside water into a home. You need it whenever water that originated outside the house, from a wash, street flooding, storm runoff or a roof, has gotten past the exterior and into living space, since that water is typically more contaminated than a clean indoor leak. Nevada Water Damage responds during and after monsoon storms across the Las Vegas valley to extract water, dry the structure and rebuild what was damaged.

Nevada Water Damage

What we do

A desert city floods differently than a coastal one, but it still floods. When a monsoon cell drops a large amount of rain in a short time, the ground cannot absorb it fast enough, and water moves across streets, through washes and into yards and homes faster than most people expect. A garage, a ground floor, or a room below a failed roof can take on water in minutes.

Nevada Water Damage responds during and after these storms to get water out, assess what got wet and how contaminated it is, and start structural drying before secondary damage sets in. Flood water carries more risk than a clean pipe leak, so we treat it with the right category of caution from the first walkthrough.

Signs

Signs you need help

  • Water visibly entering from outside through a door, window, garage or foundation gap
  • A wash, retention area or street near your home overflowing during a storm
  • Water stains or active dripping from the ceiling after heavy rain
  • A muddy or debris line left on walls or flooring after water recedes
  • A musty or sewage-like smell after a storm event
  • Warped baseboards, swollen doors or lifted flooring following a rain event
  • Standing water in a garage, patio or window well after a monsoon storm
  • Damp drywall or insulation discovered days after a storm has passed

Right now

What to do first

  1. Do not enter standing floodwater if there is any chance it is near an electrical outlet or panel
  2. Turn off electricity to the affected area at the breaker if you can do so safely from a dry location
  3. Move valuables, electronics and important documents to a dry, elevated area
  4. Take photos and video of the flooding and any damage as soon as it is safe
  5. Avoid using flooded appliances or outlets until they have been checked
  6. Call Nevada Water Damage for a free inspection as soon as the storm has passed and it is safe to do so

Las Vegas

Why Las Vegas floods even though it is a desert

The National Weather Service defines monsoon season as June 15 through September 30, and in the Las Vegas valley most storms come in July and August, and the storms in that window can be intense and fast-moving. Hard desert ground and paved surfaces do not absorb a sudden downpour the way soil in a wetter climate would, so rain that falls in an hour can end up running across yards and streets rather than soaking in.

The valley's washes are designed to carry that runoff, but a storm cell parked over one neighborhood can still overwhelm the system faster than water can drain away, sending water toward homes on the low side of a street or a slab-on-grade foundation with a low threshold. Flat and tile roofs common in the valley can also develop leaks that only show themselves during a hard, wind-driven monsoon rain.

Because these storms are concentrated in a few months, many homeowners only find out a roof, window seal or grading issue exists the first time a real monsoon cell hits, which is often well into the season.

Process

How does flood & monsoon damage work?

Done to IICRC standards, with documented moisture readings.

  1. Emergency response

We respond as soon as it is safe to reach the property, which during an active storm may mean shortly after conditions allow. We assess the source, whether water is still entering, and the category of contamination.

  2. Water categorization

Storm water that has touched the ground, a wash or the street is typically treated as Category 2 or 3 depending on what it carried, which changes how materials are handled and what can be dried versus must be removed.

  3. Extraction

Standing water is extracted from floors, garages and any low point it collected in, using truck-mounted or portable equipment sized to the volume of water present.

  4. Removal of contaminated materials

Carpet, pad, baseboards and drywall that absorbed contaminated flood water are typically removed rather than dried, since Category 2 and 3 water cannot be fully sanitized inside porous materials.

  5. Cleaning and antimicrobial treatment

Affected surfaces are cleaned and treated with antimicrobial product before drying equipment goes in, to address contamination the water carried in from outside.

  6. Structural drying

Air movers and LGR dehumidifiers dry the structure, with daily moisture readings tracking progress. Most structural drying takes about three to five days.

  7. Rebuild

Removed drywall, baseboards and flooring are replaced and matched, and we walk the property with you to confirm everything is dry and repaired before closing out the job.

Insurance

Does insurance cover flood & monsoon damage?

Flood and storm damage coverage varies more than a simple pipe leak, because standard homeowners policies typically treat wind-driven rain that enters through a roof or window differently than groundwater that rises up from outside, which is often a separate flood policy question. Many homeowners policies do cover sudden storm and roof-related water intrusion, while water that entered from ground-level flooding may fall under different coverage. We document the source, path and extent of the water carefully, since that detail is exactly what determines how a claim is handled, and we bill your insurer directly once coverage is confirmed.

Cost

What decides the cost of flood & monsoon damage in Las Vegas?

  • How much of the home the water reached and how many rooms or levels are affected
  • The water category, since contaminated storm water often requires more material removal than clean water
  • How long water sat before it was extracted
  • How many drying days are needed to bring the structure back to normal moisture levels
  • Whether flooring, baseboards, drywall or insulation must be replaced
  • Whether the roof, grading or a window seal also needs repair to stop future intrusion

Every job is different. The inspection is free and we walk you through the scope before work starts.

Prevention

How to keep it from happening again

  • Have your roof, especially flat or tile sections, inspected before monsoon season each year
  • Clear gutters, scuppers and roof drains before July so heavy rain has somewhere to go
  • Check that grading around your home slopes water away from the foundation rather than toward it
  • Keep window and door weatherstripping in good condition ahead of storm season
  • Know where sandbags or barriers might be needed if your property sits on a low point on the street
  • Walk the property after the first hard monsoon storm each season to catch a new leak early

Questions

Straight answers

Is monsoon flood water always more contaminated than a pipe leak?

Usually, yes. Water that has been on the ground, in a street or in a wash is generally treated as Category 2 or 3 under IICRC standards, meaning it may carry contamination that a clean supply line leak does not, which changes how we clean and what materials can be saved.

My roof only leaked during one bad storm, is it worth fixing?

A roof leak that only shows during wind-driven monsoon rain is still a real leak, just one that needs the right conditions to reveal itself. We recommend having it looked at before the next storm rather than waiting to see if it happens again.

Does homeowners insurance cover monsoon flooding?

It depends on how the water entered. Sudden storm damage through a roof or window is often covered by a standard homeowners policy, while water rising up from outside ground-level flooding can fall under separate flood coverage. We document the water's path carefully since that detail matters to the claim.

How fast do you respond during an active monsoon storm?

We respond as soon as conditions are safe to travel and work in. During widespread storm events response can take longer than usual across the valley, and we will communicate honestly about timing rather than guess.

Will you save my carpet after flood water got in?

It depends on the water category and how long it sat. Carpet and pad that absorbed contaminated Category 2 or 3 storm water typically cannot be fully sanitized and are usually removed and replaced rather than dried and kept.

What is the difference between this service and structural drying?

Structural drying is one part of what happens during flood damage restoration. Flood damage restoration also covers extraction, contamination assessment, removal of unsalvageable materials, and the rebuild, with drying being the middle stage of that process.

Can flooding cause mold even after the water is gone?

Yes. The EPA notes mold can begin to grow within 24 to 48 hours of water damage, so even after visible water recedes, anything left damp behind walls or under flooring can start growing mold if it is not dried properly and promptly.
